The Jorge Murad market, better known as La Fayuca, is considered one of the most dangerous places in Puebla. It is an embodiment of the corruption that is rife in Mexico: in 2006, a spoof email was sent round claiming two people were murdered there, and mysteriously sales vastly improved in the following period. It is undeniably a dangerous place, and over the course of the years the place has only become more and more so.

This growing danger is due to a sort of turf war which has developed between two high powered figures in La Fayuca- Miguel Olivera Flores ‘La Fresa’, and Isidro Rosas López ‘La Coneja’. The rise of the latter has supposedly created huge instability in the market, threatening ‘La Fresa’.

The idea of a change of leadership is particularly unwelcome to an unknown group who go out of their way to destroy what is known as Isidro Rosas’ territory in the market. What is more, it seems as if the situation if going nowhere- no politicians are willing to help, and the public feel unable to.

As a result, it is now suggested by the local government to steer clear of la Fayuca, for fear of muggings and violence.
