Apps for Earth Day

Each year on 22 April Earth Day is celebrated to remind us that our actions- whether good or bad- affect our planet, and to encourage us to involve ourselves in projects to safeguard our planet. To celebrate Earth Day 2016, a list of eco-friendly apps has been compiled, all of which can be downloaded from the App Store.

WWF Together
This app by the prominent charity shows work being done around the world to protect endangered species, plus you can read up on these animals, and the threats which are imposed on them.

GoodGuide
This clever app allows you to scan products in grocery stores and will show you whether it is environmentally friendly and healthy.

Recyclebank
Recycle bank rewards you for recycling, by giving you coupons, special deals in shops, and iPhone deals.

Virtual Water
This app allows you to visualise how much water goes into making certain goods- of example, 1kg of meat needs 20000 litres of water!

Earth Day Carol
An interactive ebook adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, the perfect way to introduce children to the topic of climate change. Scrooge is replaced by a plastic bottle who is visited by his past, present and future ghosts, instilling the motto “reduce, reuse, recycle”.

Make Chance, Not Waste
Similar to Recyclebank, this app rewards shoppers in Whole foods Market with coupons. After making ten green choices, such as using a reusable bag instead of a plastic one, you unlock a coupon.
